Students of Kosofe Junior High School in Ketu-Alapere have received school bags, books, shoes and writing materials from the Lagos Elites Lions Club.
The presentation took place at the school on Thursday, September 24, as part of the club’s literacy and back-to-school programme.
President of the club, Lion Charles Mofunanya, said the initiative was intended to support pupils with essential learning materials and encourage them to take their education seriously.
The District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 404 B5, Lion Phyna Origho, also attended the programme.
Representatives of the school and Lagos Education District II received the materials. They included the school’s vice-principal, Mr Okelarin Abiodun, and Mr Adekunle Todoro of the Co-curricular and Technology Department, Education District II, Maryland.
For families facing rising household and education costs, assistance with bags, shoes and writing materials can reduce some of the immediate expenses associated with keeping children in school.
However, the reports did not state the number of students who benefited or the quantity of materials distributed. Those details are important for assessing the reach of the intervention.
Kosofe Inside Out will seek clarification from the organisers and school authorities on the number of beneficiaries, how the students were selected and whether further support is planned for other schools in the area.
