TECH BOOM IN KOSOFE: LJLA Fellows Launch ₦50M Solar-Powered Digital Hub for Kosofe Students
A massive upgrade has hit the public education landscape right here in the Kosofe Federal Constituency. In a bid to permanently bridge the digital divide and eliminate the challenges of power outages during study hours, a team of brilliant fellows from the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) has built and officially commissioned a state-of-the-art, ₦50 million solar-powered digital learning hub and completely remodelled the public school library at Alapere Senior High School.
The transformative project was executed by the academy's Team U.P.G.R.A.D.E (Unlocking Potential through Growth, Research and Applied Digital Education) under the theme “Bridging the Digital Divide: Empowering for Global Competitiveness.” By converting an underutilised, dusty school library space into a high-tech facility, the intervention gives Kosofe students a major competitive edge over their peers across Lagos State.
The facility is scheduled to officially open its doors for student usage on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Our correspondent who toured the newly unveiled facility confirm that the hub is fully optimized for modern learning. To solve the persistent problem of power outages, Team U.P.G.R.A.D.E installed a heavy-duty solar-inverter power system to guarantee that students never experience blackouts while studying.
The hub is fully stocked with 50 high-specification laptops. Beyond computer literacy, these devices are equipped to teach high-demand skills like Python programming, Artificial Intelligence (AI) fundamentals, and graphic design. Crucially for our local students, these computers come pre-loaded with custom offline Computer-Based Testing (CBT) examination simulation software. This means Kosofe students can actively practice for major national exams without needing expensive internet data or worrying about slow network connections.
To ensure order, fairness, and maximum impact, a structured registration pathway has been established for local parents whose children are sitting for upcoming examinations:
- School-Level Verification: Parents must first verify their child's enrollment status through the administrative office of their local public school within the Kosofe/Education District II area.
- PTA-Coordinated Roster: Verified candidates will be registered via the collaborative Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) database, which manages scheduling slots for the facility.
- Free Admission: Registered students receive completely free exam coaching, structured CBT practice, and digital literacy training overseen by newly trained ICT instructors.
Official Shift Schedules & Opening Tracks
To accommodate hundreds of Kosofe students efficiently without overcrowding, the hub will operate on a strict, daily three-shift schedule starting July 20, 2026:
- Shift 1 (08:00 AM – 11:30 AM): Dedicated exclusively to JAMB Exam Preparations and computer literacy training.
- Shift 2 (12:00 PM – 03:30 PM): Dedicated to WAEC Exam Preparations and core curriculum digital enhancement.
- Shift 3 (04:00 PM – 06:00 PM): Open for Remedial Practice, self-led CBT drills, and technical skill development.
The commissioning was a comprehensive two-day event that focused heavily on both physical development and human capital:
- Day 1 (The Infrastructure): The launch kicked off with an eco-friendly tree-planting exercise on the school grounds, a heated student exhibition debate showcasing local academic talent, and the official cutting of the ribbon to open the digital hub.
- Day 2 (The Teachers' Conference): Recognizing that a modern lab is only as good as its instructors, the second day shifted to a specialized educators' conference. Teachers were equipped with cutting-edge skills on how to integrate digital resources into daily classroom instructions, manage modern ICT learning spaces, and adopt student-centred teaching methods.
To ensure the facility is protected from theft, vandalism, or abandonment, the fellows established a strict Fellow-to-School ownership transition model. This structural framework binds the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), active alumni associations, and Kosofe education district administrators into a collaborative committee tasked with regular hardware management, technical audits, and tight security supervision.
Speaking at the crowded launch ceremony, the Team Lead for Team U.P.G.R.A.D.E, Titilope Anifowoshe, stated that the project was fueled by deep gratitude. "We were fueled by the conviction that Lagos has given us too much for us to leave without giving something back," Anifowoshe noted passionately.
The event drew a high-powered delegation of top Lagos State officials and grassroots leaders. In attendance were Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade (Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy), Mr. AbdulBaki Ladi Balogun (General Manager of the Lagos State Ferry Services), alongside the Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of Education District II, school administrators, and respected community chiefs.
The biggest news of the day for Kosofe residents came from the APC House of Representatives candidate and two-time Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo. Impressed by the quality of the solar-powered infrastructure, Mayor Dele Oshinowo immediately pledged additional public funding to expand the facility’s capacity. This new funding injection will allow the hub to swallow more computer hardware, expand its physical space, and permit hundreds of more public school students from across Ketu, Ikosi, Ifako and Mile 12 to access the centre completely free of charge.
Team U.P.G.R.A.D.E has confirmed that this Kosofe facility represents the pioneer pilot phase. Moving forward, they plan to expand the Book Reading Club across other secondary schools in Lagos and actively push for stronger advocacy for community and school libraries. For now, Kosofe stands proud as the birthplace of this digital revolution.
