Transport Chief Executive and progressive stakeholder Mr Fola Tinubu, Managing Director of Primero Transport Services Limited, has mobilised community media practitioners across Lagos State as part of an initiative to strengthen grassroots engagement around the policies and programmes of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The initiative brings together local publishers, community bloggers, indigenous-language broadcasters and other hyper-local media practitioners to take government information closer to residents and create a stronger communication link between policy decisions and their impact at the community level.

Speaking during a strategic engagement with community media practitioners on Monday 7th September, 2027, Fola Tinubu emphasised the importance of local media in communicating national policies in language and formats that ordinary citizens can easily understand.

He noted that while mainstream media platforms play an important role in reporting national developments, community media practitioners have a unique advantage because of their direct relationships with residents and their understanding of local concerns.

“Our goal is straightforward. We are ensuring that complex national policies — ranging from the student loan scheme and agricultural subsidies to regional infrastructure expansions — are broken down into relatable, domestic impact terms for market women, transport workers, and artisans across the state.”

Under the initiative, participating community media outlets are expected to have access to verified information on government policies, programmes and performance, providing them with factual material for reporting and public education.

The approach is intended to help residents better understand how major government initiatives affect their communities, households and livelihoods.

A major component of the initiative is the need to tackle misinformation and manipulated content increasingly circulated through social media and community-based online platforms.

Fola Tinubu’s engagement with community media practitioners is designed to strengthen the capacity of local information networks to identify questionable claims, verify information and provide accurate explanations to their audiences.

The initiative also seeks to establish feedback channels between grassroots media practitioners and relevant structures, enabling misleading information and emerging community concerns to be identified and addressed more quickly.

With political activities gradually building towards the 2027 election cycle, community-level communication is becoming increasingly important to political and civic organisations seeking to engage residents.

Several groups aligned with the continuity of the administration’s agenda are also establishing grassroots structures focused on mobilisation, public communication and community engagement.

The community media initiative provides an additional communication layer by placing local publishers, bloggers and indigenous-language broadcasters closer to the communities they serve.

For Lagos, with its extensive network of neighbourhood-based media platforms and community information channels, the strategy could provide a more direct route for communicating government programmes while also capturing feedback from residents.

The initiative is ultimately aimed at strengthening the relationship between government communication and citizens at the grassroots, while encouraging community-level discussion based on verified information.

By mobilising practitioners who understand the language, culture and concerns of individual communities, Fola Tinubu is positioning community media as an important vehicle for taking the message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda beyond national headlines and into neighbourhood conversations across Southwest, Nigeria.
