LAGOS, NIGERIA: Residents and motorists in Kosofe Federal Constituency have been advised to prepare for possible traffic disruptions as repair works on the Kara Bridge, outbound Lagos, along the LagosāIbadan Expressway are scheduled to begin on September 8.
The Federal Ministry of Works announced that the maintenance exercise, expected to run until September 21, will involve the replacement of expansion joints and require a partial closure of the outbound carriageway.
The development is expected to reduce road capacity and potentially cause increased traffic and longer travel times for motorists travelling out of Lagos, particularly during peak periods.
In a public advisory to constituents, the Member representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, urged residents and other road users to plan their journeys ahead and consider alternative routes where necessary.
According to the advisory, motorists travelling from Ikorodu towards Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan may consider the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes as alternatives.
Similarly, motorists travelling from Lagos Island towards Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan may consider the EpeāIjebu Ode corridor.
Ogbara noted that the development was particularly significant for Kosofe, given the proximity of several communities within and around the constituency to the LagosāIbadan Expressway corridor.
She said many residents depend on the route for daily commuting, business activities and access to neighbouring communities, warning that the partial closure could increase pressure on connecting roads as motorists seek alternative routes.
The lawmaker advised constituents and other road users to stay updated through official traffic and security alerts, allow extra travel time, particularly during peak periods, and comply with instructions from traffic management officials.
She also urged motorists to exercise caution around the construction area, remain alert to changing road conditions and avoid unnecessary stopping or parking along affected sections of the expressway.
āYour safety remains a shared responsibility,ā Ogbara said, urging residents to stay informed, exercise caution and travel safely throughout the maintenance period.
The repair works are scheduled to run from September 8 to September 21, 2026.
